Campus Gamers – Education & Gaming Symposium

Attended by around 360 people. Helped with marketing, setup, coordination, and was in charge of managing the speakers.

On May 4, 2012, the Campus Gamers student organization at California State University, Bakerfield will be hosting the 2012 Education and Gaming Symposium. Leaders in the video game industry will address CSUB students, faculty and local community members. They will share their ideas about how game design is used to engage players, and how similar engagement techniques can be used to improve education. Join some of the most coveted professionals in the video gaming industry as they discuss how games can be educational and the benefits video games have on the lives of children today. We worked hard to make the 2012 Education and Gaming Symposium happen and we are proud to say it is a night you don’t want to miss.

Among the key speakers of the evening is James Portnow, game designer and writer for the web series Extra Credits. James Portnow received his masters from Carnegie Mellon’s Entertainment Technology Center, went on to work for Activision as a designer on the Call of Duty series before raising funds to start his own company, Divide by Zero Games. Recently he’s opened Rainmaker Games a design and narrative consulting firm that has worked with partners from Warner Bros. to Zynga.

Joining him will be none other than Leslie Redd. Leslie Redd is the Director of Educational Programs at Valve Corporation, an entertainment software and technology company based in Bellevue, Washington. In addition to producing bestselling entertainment titles such as Half Life, Team Fortress 2, and Portal 2, Valve is a developer of leading-edge technologies, such as Steam, a broadband platform that delivers and manages digital content for 40 million accounts.

Finally, Geoffrey Zatkin will be speaking as well. Geoffrey “GZ” Zatkin is President and COO of EEDAR, the premier research and business-intelligence company of the video game industry. Co-founding the company in 2006, Mr. Zatkin directs development of EEDAR’s product and service infrastructure.
